What to Do in Columbus, Ohio
A city of more than 1 million, Columbus is known as “The Biggest Small Town in America” for its small-town vibe and friendly residents. That’s not to say it’s boring, however – Columbus is also known as “The Discovery City” and discover you will! We’ve picked out a variety of our favorite local spots and things to do that show off this gorgeous city in the hopes that you’ll come visit and love it just as much as we do.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus has a little bit of everything when it comes to sports: football (including the fan favorite Ohio State Buckeyes), baseball, soccer, and ice hockey. The Columbus Blue Jackets were founded in 2000 as an NHL expansion team, with the name being a reference to Columbus’s contributions during the American Civil War. They continue to play on that theme and historical references with the cannon – an 1857 Napoleon replica that fires every time a goal is scored and lends Nationwide Arena a truly unique gameday atmosphere.
Studio 35
Catch a movie, drink some brews, eat some pizza, and enjoy community events at Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse. They have several movie screens playing everything from indie films to action blockbusters, in addition to a full bar with more than 40 beers on tap and an in-house pizza kitchen. They also host events like local film festivals and performances of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a rich experience that has something for everyone, from animal exhibits to roller coasters to virtual reality! It’s also part of a family of parks – there’s Zoombezi Bay; the waterpark next door and Safari Golf Club just across the street (with all proceeds going toward zoo funding!). About 2 hours from the zoo is The Wilds, a 10,000-acre park where guests can view rare and endangered animal species from a safari vehicle.
