Discovering Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Often referred to as the “Gateway to the North,” Prince Albert is home to exceptional natural beauty with a growing arts and culture scene. As your local self storage experts, let us guide you through the community. We’re dedicated to providing the businesses and residents of Prince Albert with friendly service and clean and secure storage units to meet everyone’s needs. Whether you’re here to stay or just for a visit, let us show you what we love about our city.
Art, History, Theatre, and More
Prince Albert’s arts and culture scene is thriving. The community takes immense pride in highlighting the town’s rich history and showcasing artwork from both established and emerging artists. The performing arts are also well-represented here with options for live music and dance and theatre performances.
The Mann Art Gallery is a must-visit spot for anyone visiting Prince Albert. The gallery features a wide range of contemporary and traditional art from local and regional artists, making it a hub for the city’s art community. With rotating exhibitions and events throughout the year, the gallery offers a unique and engaging cultural experience for visitors and locals alike. The gallery also has a permanent collection that includes everything from ceramics and paintings to woodworking and tapestries, so there’s always something to see, no matter when you visit!
Another of the city’s highlights is the Prince Albert Historical Museum, a fantastic attraction for history buffs or anyone interested in learning more about the region’s history. Once a fire hall, the museum features exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of the city’s rich history and the people who have called it home. From the fur trade era to the present day, visitors can explore the diverse cultural and social history of Prince Albert through a range of displays and interactive exhibits. It’s also home to the Bill Smiley archives and a relaxing tearoom for guests.
EA Rawlinson Centre for the Arts has served the city for 20 years, offering live performances from local and international artists. Whether you’re a fan of dance, theatre, live music, or other performing arts the centre holds events year-round. They’re also dedicated to nurturing a passion for the arts among school-age children, with educational programs teaching music, dance, and drama available.
Adventure Indoors and Out
Prince Albert has some of the most beautiful landscapes in Saskatchewan, perfect for outdoor adventures like hiking, canoeing, fishing, and more. The city also has dedicated spaces for indoor adventures, with a new rec center under construction. With more than 1,300 acres of parkland and 7 recreation centers you can visit the water park, go camping, catch a hockey game, or do all three!
The nearby Little Red River Park is one of our favorite places in Prince Albert. It is excellent for hiking, mountain biking, and camping. It has more than 40 km of trails and plenty of campsites for overnight stays. Also well worth visiting is Prince Albert National Park, home to various hiking trails, bike paths, picnic/beach areas, and more. The park is a favorite among locals and visitors due to its wildlife viewings and the number of outdoor activities in the area. The park has guides available on-site and online for those looking to explore but please be mindful and considerate of black bears and other wild animals who call the park home.
While the new arena and aquatics recreations center’s 2 hockey rinks, lazy river, water slides, and arena are under construction there are still plenty of opportunities for indoor adventures in Prince Albert while you wait. Kinsmen Water Park is ideal for a fun swim with the family, but if you’re looking to watch a hockey game try our main arena at Art Hauser Centre where the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders play. The best all-around rec center currently goes to Alfred Jenkins Field House with its rock wall, soccer field, gym, and adventure park.
Hungry for More?
While our city might not be known for its food, that doesn’t mean we don’t have some incredible options. One of the standout restaurants here is The Spice Trail, which offers a delicious blend of Indian and Nepalese cuisine. The menu features a range of dishes bursting with flavor, from spicy curries to savory tandoori chicken. The options are plentiful, but we recommend the tandoori tikka chicken with spicy bullet naan and gulab jamun (fried dollops of dough in flavored syrups) for dessert.
If you’re hungry after visiting the Historical Museum, head to the nearby Bison Café. The coffeehouse is well- known for its fresh soups, paninis, bison meat, and desserts. The décor and atmosphere are excellent – combined with the food and service they make even a casual meal an inviting experience.
Looking for a truly unique, out of this world dining experience? Check out Science Fiction Pizza! This quirky pizza place offers a range of pizzas with sci-fi-themed names like the “Black Hole” and the “UFO.” Pizza toppings range from classic pepperoni to experimental options like smoked salmon and cream cheese. Whether you’re a sci-fi fan or just looking for a fun, delicious meal, Science Fiction Pizza will deliver – literally!
